Do you want a designated reading room? Or would you like to add library shelving to a hallway or room in your home? Once we have a general grasp of your needs, we'll schedule a complimentary in-home design appointment.
The Design Consultation
Next, we will visit your home and start to plan your dream home library. We'll measure the square footage and ceiling height of the area, bring shelving material samples, and start creating a design concept for your space. We will then take our findings back to the studio and create a 3D version of the proposed library system. After you've approved the design, we can send you a formal quote for review.
We Build and Install Your Home Library
We select durable and beautiful materials, measure each shelf, cabinet and board to perfection, and begin to fabricate your library back at our workshop. We are able to build each individual piece in such a way that when we arrive at your home for the installation, the whole process is usually completed in just a few hours. We'll be out of your way in no time at all.
Considerations For Your Home Library Design in Maryland
High Ceilings Provide Opportunities
Vaulted or high ceilings offer ample opportunities for homeowners to create a striking, multi-level home library. These heights can be utilized to construct floor-to-ceiling bookcases, doubling as an aesthetically pleasing focal point and an efficient use of space. Ladders can be integrated into the design for, creating old-world charm and offering easy access to the higher shelves.
Do You Have a Loft or Mezzanine?
For a modern approach, consider building a loft library. This mezzanine-style design utilizes the height to create an entirely separate reading area, accessible by stairs or a ladder. The lower space can then be used for additional seating or workspaces. High ceilings allow for this flexibility in design, creating an enchanting, spacious home library.
Take Advantage of Wide Hallways or Unused Corners
Wall-to-wall bookshelves can be built to maximize storage space and create a gallery-like effect in hallways. This will not only make the area functional but also add an intellectual charm to the home.
On the other hand, an unused corner can be transformed into a cozy reading nook with built-in shelving. Complement the shelves with a comfortable armchair, a reading lamp, and a side table to create an inviting space.
To personalize your hallway or corner library, consider adding art or photographs between books, and use spotlighting to highlight these pieces. Small details like a plush rug or cushions, themed decor, or even a vintage rolling ladder can add character to the space. These compact home libraries demonstrate that you don't need a spare room to nurture a love for reading in a stylish way.
